About Me
Life at C.D. Fulkes Middle School
I guess I am what you would call a Lizard for Life! This is my 28th year to teach at our great school. I spent the first ten years of my career teaching 6th grade Language Arts. For the last seventeen years, I have been the Yearbook adviser. I have taught a few other courses: 6th grade Fine arts, Newspaper, and BIM(Business Information Management). I have survived several school renovations and additions but have only been in four different classrooms in all those years. I am currently our campus Public Relations Coordinator; I manage our campus Facebook page and create our newsletter.
Life Away from School
I have a great family. I have been married to my husband for 24 years. We live in Georgetown with our two children. My daughter is a sophomore in college majoring in mechanical engineering. My son is a senior in high school. We have a Golden Retriever, Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix and three cats. For the record, I am not really a cat person, but our cats have grown on me.
I spend my free time with my family, reading, hanging out with friends, watching college football and working on a variety of graphic projects.
Education
In 1989, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Texas. I am certified to teach English, Speech, Reading, Journalism, and Drama. I recently earned a Business Education certification for grades 6 -12. I attended Santana High School in Santee, California where I was influenced by some of the most amazing teachers on the planet.
Growing Up
My hometown is San Diego, California (although I have been in Texas much longer now). I attended six different schools between Kindergarten and 12th grade. The middle school I attended in 7th grade was HUGE...over 2000 students. The school was still under construction at the beginning of the year so I attended school from 12:00pm to 4:00pm everyday the first semester. I thought that was very cool. In October of my 8th grade year, we moved to a community there was one school for Kindergarten - 8th grade. It was quite the change. It was especially challenging being a new student. As a teen, I played fast pitch softball, participated in class council and cheer leading(one year) and enjoyed going to the beach.
